Three things you didn’t know about Zika

  1. When the WHO stopped calling it a public health emergency, that was actually a bad sign. They meant it was no longer a temporary thing – Zika is with us for the long haul and has to be budgeted that way, not from emergency funds.
  2. Zika is sexually transmitted through both heterosexual and homosexual sex. It can spread man to woman or women to man. The sexual spread of Zika accounts for a lot of the “inexplicable” cases, like the ones in Northern Ireland.
  3. Five babies have been born in New York City since July with Zika-related brain malformations.
