Human beings aren’t at core deadly. We’re not red in truth and claw. Babies believe in fairness until we teach them otherwise. We do not kill in cold blood unless we’re trained to. When disaster strikes, we build communities to recover instead of turning on each other.
We’ve managed to build ourselves a world where babies learn that injustice is okay, teenage boys use military techniques to teach themselves to kill, and we’re so convinced that people are evil we tell ourselves disaster stories that are not remotely true.
We can do better. We can make enough noise to force this system into something that supports human goodness instead of pretending it right out of existence.
