Food Security: According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, “Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.” It tends to be a catch all phrase for the tracking agriculture, food industries, and household food production.

Fortification: Adding micronutrients such as vitamin A or iron to staple foods like flour or rice in order to improve health.

IDD: Iodine Deficiency Disorders. A lack of dietary iodine causes a range of neurological damages, known as iodine deficiency disorders.

Sprinkles: A powder containing essential micronutrients designed to be sprinkled onto children’s foods. example

Supplementation: Providing stand-alone micronutrients to people at risk for nutritional deficiencies, such as iron drops for babies or folic acid pills for pregnant women.

WIFS: Weekly iron-folic acid supplementation, often distributed to women of reproductive age.
