Self-Coaching: Movies

TV screen showing Love Actually

Film has an ability to connect us to our dreams. Even the most mass-produced profit-oriented piece of schlock can produce a deep emotional reaction if resonates with our deep beliefs. (see: Star Wars) The movies we love, and the movies we hate, can reveal our preferences. Reflecting on your response to movies can help you understand what you want from your life and what you value.

Think of a movie you love. Ideally one with no actual cinematic value (perhaps Love Actually?) Consider these three questions:

  1. What is the core message of the movie? Do you agree with that core message?
  2. Do any of the characters remind you or yourself or people you love?
  3. What do the characters in the movie possess that you want for yourself?
